 Royal Rangers

Whether through a camp-out featuring a blazing campfire, a wilderness hike in God’s beautiful creation, an outing to a sporting event, or in our meetings on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm; our Rangers experience the fun, excitement and purpose of this ministry.

We realize that the only way to grow a man is with a boy. This purpose is accomplished through weekly meeting plans which feature material designed to allow the boy to earn advancements by completing the requirements for each merit or achievement badges.

Ranger Kids: K - 2

Ranger Kids-the trail to fun and adventure-is an exciting program for boys in kindergarten, first and second grades. Boys in this age group participate in great fun and excitement that will allow boys to develop their interests and needs as well as mold their character.

Discovery Rangers: 3 - 5

Discovery Rangers is a fun and exciting program for boys in third, fourth, and fifth-grade. Not only does the boy get to discover great indoor and outdoor activities, he will get to make many new friends. Being a Discovery Ranger is another step toward growing into a man of God.

Adventure Rangers: 6 - 8

Adventure Rangers are young men who take and learn of great adventures. They also learn of the adventures of the Bible which allow them to grow spiritually. This fun program allows the boy to grow to become a great man of God.

Expedition Rangers: 9 - 12

Expedition Rangers work on using the skills they have learned throuhout their Royal Ranger career. They earn silver merits as well as merits they go back to pick up such as gold and green merits. They grow spiritually by working on spiritual challenges. They take great expeditions to use their skills while having a lot of fun.

Royal Ranger History

1914

The Assemblies of God Begins in April in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

1962

In January, Rev. Johnnie Barnes moves to Springfield, Missouri, to put together a program for boys. Rev. Charles Scott suggests the name "Royal Rangers." Rev. Barnes becomes the first Royal Ranger national commander.

1963

The Royal Rangers Leadership Training course is developed

1964

The first district-wide Pow Wows are held. The Gold Medal of Achievement and the Medal of Valor awards are first offered.

1966

Royal Ranger programs are set up in Australia and Latin America. The Frontiersmen Camping Fraternity, later Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship, is formed. The first Royal Rangers Week is held, it celebrates the Royal Rangers ministry and encourages reaching, teaching, and keeping boys for Christ.

1974

The first National Camporama, a camping event that happens every four years, is held at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

1977

The National Royal Rangers council is formed and meets in Springfield, Missouri.
1980
In the early 1980s the Pentecostal Holiness denomination adopted the Ambassadors for Christ ministry as their official boy's ministry. All uniforms and written materials were produced in small amounts and on an individual order as needed basis. There were very little funds and support for Ambassadors for Christ within the denomination .

1985

Then in 1985 Leonard Atkins met Art Webb. Art was the pastor for the Siler City Assemblies of God church. But most importantly he was district commander for the Assemblies of God North Carolina district Royal Rangers and also ran camp Maranatha, which was the Assemblies of God youth camp for North Carolina also located in Siler City. Leonard learned about Royal Rangers from Art and was immediately convinced the Pentecostal Holiness denomination needed this ministry. Art Webb also agreed and the two began a two year campaign to get both denominations to agree to share the ministry.

1986

Leonard and his brother Wesley Atkins attended a Leadership Training Course held for the Assemblies of God and became even more conviced the Pentecostal Holiness denomination needed Royal Rangers. Leonard and Wesley Atkins were ther fist two men from the Pentecostal Holiness denomination to be trainned commandrs.

1986

The National Royal Rangers Training Center (now National Royal Rangers Center) at Eagle Rock, Missouri is dedicated. It is also called Camp Eagle Rock.

1989

Beloved National Commander Johnnie Barnes dies. For twenty-seven years he led the Royal Rangers, developing its ministry, many of his plans and projects were completed and a large army of boys is now following Jesus. Rev. Ken Hunt is named national commander. He guides the ministry for ten years.

Outpost 54 History

1975-1976

Mike Honeycutt lived in Marion, NC and attended an Assemblies of God church. There he was introduced to the Royal Ranger ministry. He became an active outpost commander. After relocating back to Trinity and becoming involved with the youth ministry at Trindale he began an Ambassadors for Christ outpost.

1986

While he attended a work shop at the Western North Carolina Conference Mike learned that the Pentecostal Holiness denomination had adopted the Royal Ranger ministry and would began training in April 1987. Harold Pope was the pastor of Trindale at the time and he agreed a Royal Ranger outpost would be a valuable ministry at Trindale.

1987

Mike attended the Leaders Training Camp and recieved his Leaders Medal of Achievement and chartered the outpost here at Trindale. The first outpost number was 155 and was started with 8 boys. That same year the outpost began attending the annual Pow-Wows and we have not missed one since.

1990

The outpost attened the first National Camporama held at Rainey Mt. Georgia and the conference won best flag.

1991

Mike left Trindale to assist Lexington Pentecostal Holiness Church with their outpost. He was gone for 4 years and Ron Morris served as Senior Commander for Trindale. The Morris family had started attending Trindale in 1989 and Ron had completed the Leaders Training Camp.

1994

Ron Morris resigned due to personnal reasons and Mike took over as Senior Commander again.

1996

By this time chartering changed to the conference level instead of the national level. When the chartering for Trindale was completed we received number 54.

2001

Mike resigned again as Senior Commander and Rodney Suggs took the postion. The Suggs family had attended Trindale for awhile and Rodney was a great choice for Senior Commander. Rodney Suggs is still the active Senior Commander for Trindale.

2003

Royal Rangers released a new curriculum and Trindale adopted the new program. The new program was modernized from the orginal program to keep boys and commanders interested in the ministry.
